Tragedy struck as lightning claimed the lives of 25 individuals across different cities in South Punjab and the Nushki district of Balochistan.
Reports indicate that 17 fatalities occurred due to lightning strikes in Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar regions of South Punjab. Additionally, eight lives were lost in various areas of Balochistan.
A spokesperson for PDMA confirmed that lightning incidents occurred in Muzaffargarh, Rahimyar Khan, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar, resulting in the unfortunate demise of 17 individuals. The Director-General of PDMA promptly contacted the Deputy Commissioners of the affected districts, directing them to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
Rescue 1122 reported seven fatalities, including a married couple and two children, in three separate lightning incidents in Rahim Yar Khan, nine in Bahawalpur, Lodhran, and Faqirwali, and one in the Dunyapur area.
Moreover, two civilians lost their lives to lightning strikes in Chaman and Sorab areas of Balochistan, while another citizen succumbed to lightning in Qila Abdullah, Muslim Bagh, Pashin, and Dera Bugti.
